FAQs

  • OrthoVest™ is an innovative orthopedic support device designed to alleviate the strain caused by wearing heavy lead aprons during medical procedures. Unlike traditional methods, OrthoVest uniquely transfers the full weight of the lead apron directly to the hips, providing relief in both upright and leaning forward positions. This design helps prevent neck, shoulder, and back pain, making it ideal for healthcare professionals who wear lead aprons for extended periods.

  • OrthoVest™ stands out by fully redistributing the apron's weight to the hips without relying on rigid bars or overhead suspension systems. This allows for greater mobility and natural movement while avoiding excessive stress on the neck and upper back—common issues with other approaches, especially when leaning forward. Additionally, OrthoVest™ is priced affordably to be accessible to all staff members, not just physicians, recognizing that support staff often experience a higher incidence of pain and injury from prolonged apron use.

  • Yes, OrthoVest™ is compatible with both one-piece and two-piece lead aprons. Its versatile design integrates seamlessly with standard aprons, ensuring effective weight transfer regardless of the apron style. For two-piece aprons wear the OrthoVest belt under the bottom piece of the 2-piece apron (the skirt).

  • OrthoVest™ features three sets of slots that allow the belt to be positioned differently, enabling adjustment for a wide range of body sizes. For a video explaining this process click here

  • By shifting the entire weight of the lead apron to the hips, OrthoVest™ minimizes pressure on the spine, shoulders, and neck. This is particularly beneficial during procedures requiring leaning forward, where other supports may fail and cause strain.

  • It's perfect for any healthcare worker wearing lead aprons, including technicians, nurses, and physicians. We emphasize affordability so that support staff—who face a higher risk of pain and injury—can benefit without budget constraints.
